Great first race of the season. Since the RP/66 was so fast it was really a match race against Relentless (we owe them 9 seconds a mile).
We had a poor start because we could not hear the starting horns. Relentless beat us to the weather mark by one boat length. We were able to go wing-on-wing the entire downwind leg, passed them quickly and put about 5 boat lengths on them by the downwind mark. We had great rounding (they did not) and we covered them back to G11. When we did our final tack to G11 they keep going, I guess assuming they thought we would not make G11 because of the current. Some nice “up in the puffs” and we made it. We beat them over the line by 1:53 and corrected to 1rst by 54 seconds. Aurora (who owes us 221 seconds a miles) corrected to 3rd place.
